Bio:My training includes studying with the world's foremost violin teachers, but my musical education actually started by listening, from my playpen, to my mom teaching violin to her students. My mother, a noted violin instructor in Ohio, began formally teaching me at age 4.
By the time I was 11, I was studying with a college professor and soloed with the college orchestra. By the time I was 16, I was teaching 12 private students. At 17, I attended a Julliard summer school, studying with Ivan Galamian, the world's preeminent violin pedagogue. I continued violin studies under Galamian protegees, earning a Bachelor of Music degree with High Honors in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado School of Music. I went on to earn a Masters of Music degree in Violin from Boston University School of Music, studying with Joseph Silverstein, Concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. As a young adult, my career focused on orchestral performing, playing with many established orchestras in the Boston area. A highlight of this time was probably touring the country with the Boston Pops under Henry Mancini! Later, when I moved to the Pioneer Valley, my focus shifted to teaching violin in area schools. Through this I developed a teaching method that combines my advanced violin knowledge with the experience of instructing players of all levels. Currently I've established VioLynnStudio in Florence, Massachusetts, where I enjoy teaching students of all ages and exploring countless wonderful violin and fiddle styles. |
