What's the difference in a "violin" and a "fiddle"?

  • It's not the instrument, but how it's played!
  • My students choose their favorite genre(s), I find music in that style from my vast library of sheet music and recordings.. and I teach them the skills needed for that style.
  • Having strong "classical" technique will help one sound the best, regardless of the style played, fiddle or violin.

Styles of Music:  You name it, and I'll teach it to you!

Classical: Baroque-Renaissance-Romantic-Contemporary
Fiddle: Bluegrass - Old Style - Celtic - Irish - Scottish
Klezmer - Scandinavian - Eastern European - Gypsy
Latin American - Jazz - Blues - Tangos - Rock - Pop
Solos-Ensembles-Duets-Trios-Quartets- Orchestral

5 Ways Adults Make Terrific Violin Students

Advantages I've noticed of my adult students, which will apply to you:
1.  You want to play violin.
  • No one is making you take lessons, and your self-motivation increases your ability to learn to play.
2. You have discipline and intellectual capacity.
  • You already know that consistent effort produces results, and your adult brain has the ability apply abstract concepts to music.
3. You have an appreciation of music.
  • From a lifetime of listening, you already know more than you realize about music, and that will give you an advantage in playing.
4. Neuroplasticity.
  • The brain doesn't stop developing after childhood, and studying music stimulates neural growth. (Your brain power increases, rather than shrinking!)
5. You need a break from your daily routine.
  • Playing a musical instrument gives you an opportunity to switch gears, relieve stress, and enjoy yourself.
